Match Reviews,
Manchester United are placed right on top of the log in the Champions League group F after a late Cristiano Ronaldo goal earned United a 2-1 win over Sporting Lisbon.
The Portuguese captain’s injury-time free-kick deprived his former club of a point after a battling effort that had the hosts struggling for much of the match.
On his return to the starting line-up Ronaldo soon reminded Sir Alex Ferguson of what he had been missing with a neat back-heel that unlocked Sporting’s defense but was squandered by Louis Saha. I wonder if his recent injury is still in the back of his mind. (Read More…)

Can you believe it, Rooney is back in training for Manchester United and has recovered and is expected to be fit for the Premier League match against Fulham next Monday.
The Old Trafford striker injured his ankle whilst training earlier this month resulting in him losing out on England’s final group match in the Euro 2008 championship qualifiers. England went onto lose that game 3-2 and are sure that Rooney’s absence was key.
Rooney has also missed United’s last two Premier League games against Blackburn Rovers and Bolton Wanderers, which ended in one victory and one defeat, as well as last night’s Champions League fixture against Sporting Lisbon. (Read More…)

General Commentary,
Am I the only one that thinks Manchester United have not only over-paid for Owen Hargreaves, but that they have better options at the position? The Canadian born defensive mid-fielder has made 7 appearances in 14 league games and I can only think of one good game that he’s had — off the top of my head I cannot remember the opponent (perhaps someone can refresh my memory).

If Manchester wants to be on top of the log, then they need to win games that they should. Their more difficult games against the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool are the games that is 50/50 stuff. Against the likes of Bolton, it is just plain shocking to lose.
United’s loss gives Arsenal a three points lead over United and is the first win for Bolton’s new coach, Gary Megson and just maybe we should be keeping an eye out for the new coach.
In a surprise move it was Sir Alex Ferguson who decided to rest star striker Christiano Ronaldo and let me tell you something, he must be kicking himself. United never looked like scoring and lack the creativity in the center field and as well as out wide. (Read More…)

In a bold move it was MUST (Manchester United Supporters Trust) that put a letter forward to Sports Minister Gerry Sutcliffe demanding that they intervene after spiraling ticket prices have MUST up in arms.
Gerry Sutcliffe a United supporter, irritated Alex Ferguson when he told reporters that the cost of admission to Old Trafford was keeping their life long supporters at home in stead of at the ground where it mattered. Sir Alex Ferguson responded by telling Gerry to and watch FC United. The Unibond league was started by United Fansa after they were so upset by the take over by Malcom Glazer as well as the price of tickets then. Sir Alex also pointed out that both Chelsea and Arsenal are asking more for admission than United and that he should start there. (Read More…)

Rumor Mill,
Well now what do you know off-ankle Wayne Rooney wants to be Manchester United’s captain. He needs to sort out his ankle problems first, what good is a captain on the injury list?
It is not surprising when the 22-year-old, who has been an Old Trafford boy for three years, says he would like to be seen in the same light as Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville. I feel he needs another two years to prove his leadership capabilities. It is one thing to play well, but quite another to be leading your club on the pitch. (Read More…)

How much younger can they get. United confirmed that they have signed up 14 year old John Cofie from Burnley for an undisclosed fee. Apparently other clubs were also after the youngster. Both Liverpool and Chelsea were interested in John, but the young players decided to join old Trafford’s Red Devils.
Hi sold club Burnely has inserted a clause in the contract that entitles them to a 25% take on any future transfer fee. They also negotiated a first refusal of the striker should United decide to loan him out to another club. (Read More…)

It was Arsenal that kept their number one spot on top of the Premiership table after Gallas scored a late equalizer. The game ended in a draw at 2-2.
Although both Arsenal and Manchester United are tied on 27 points it is the fact that Arsenal’s goal difference is more in their favor. Arsene Wenger’s side are still unbeaten, a feat only equaled by Liverpool at this stage. Arsenal extended their unbeaten run to 18 games in all competitions.
