AS Peter Kay recites in his stand-up routine. Villa were more like a Digestive biscuit than a Rich Tea, able to soak up only so much coffee after a dunk before crumbling to pieces.
It was hardly a classic. More Jane McDonald sings Pagliacci than Placido Domindo or Luciano Pavarotti.
United. Breathtakingly brilliant in defence. The set-piece kings never got a sniff.
Nemanja Vidic. Oozing class. Better in the air than even Martin Laursen, strong in the tackle and comfortable on the ball.
So publicly a target for former boss David O’Leary when he was plying his trade at Spartak Moscow.

The promising young keeper damaged his knee in the summer and despite undergoing corrective surgery in June, he is still a ways away from being available as an alternative for first-choice keeper Edwin Van Der Sar.

Carlos Tevez did not break his ankle following a heavy challenge in Manchester United’s victory over Birmingham yesterday, a scan has shown.
The Argentinean was carried off after 71 minutes at Old Trafford, having scored the game’s only goal in the first-half.
Sir Alex Ferguson had already said that the striker would miss United’s FA Cup tie with Aston Villa at the weekend, but the club has soothed fears that he could face a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
“Nothing is broken,” a club spokesman said. “Carlos Tevez has just got a badly bruised right ankle.” (Read More…)

Manchester United returned to winning ways with a 1-0 win over Birmingham City at Old Trafford.
Carlos Tevez struck his tenth goal of the season in the first half to keep United second in the Premier League table.
Park Ji-Sung made his first start for the Premier League champion since March but Wayne Rooney was still missing due to illness, while Medhi Nafti replaced injured skipper Damien Johnson for the visitors.
United, looking to bounce back from their shock 2-1 loss to West Ham United on Saturday, came agonisingly close to breaking the deadlock when Tevez’s header hit the post from Patrice Evra’s pinpoint cross on eight minutes. (Read More…)
