United headed into this game 5 points ahead of 2nd place Chelsea, and 6 points ahead of 3rd place Arsenal.
United started with their strongest 4 in the back : Ferdinand, Vidic, Brown, and Evra.

This should have been an easy game for United, or at least that’s what Sir Alex thought. He had no choice with Foster, but started O’Shea, Park, and Giggs. And had Ronaldo playing up top with Rooney. UEFA paired up the final 8 teams today and United drew Roma, again. Now
United prepare to take on Roma for the 5th and 6th time in 12 months. Ironically Manchester United was in the same situation this time last year. They were paired with Roma in the Champions League quarter finals, a classic victory for United and an embarrassing defeat for Roma. (Read More…)
Sir Alex hails English Football
“I think the Premier League is the strongest in Europe,” Sir Alex told MUTV. “For a spell it was the Spanish league – I remember about seven or eight years ago they had three teams in the semi-finals and Spanish football was really strong, but I think the English game has now reached that level.”
