Soccer legend Johan Cruyff, now an official adviser to Barcelona club president Joan Laporta, feels Manchester United should be just as, if not more worried to face Barcelona then vice versa

Cruyff had this to say in his regular column in Catalan newspaper El Periodico on Monday :

“They run a lot. Their style of football, and that of all the English teams, gives the false sensation that they run more than anyone…” “…That’s because despite having a majority of foreigners in their squads they maintain the philosophy of long-ball football and sprinting 60 yards…” “…Despite recognizing their effort, you can disarm an English side that presses and looks for the long ball by keeping possession and moving the ball around quickly.”

A little easier said then done Mr. Cruyff.
Manchester United have such diversity, that simply “keeping possession and moving the ball around quickly” isn’t enough.

United can play long balls, something Barcelona is not accustomed to. They can play down the wings and have scored a fair amount of goals using flanks. Don’t forget Uniteds set pieces are deadly.

I hope Frank Rijkaard feels the same way Mr. Cruyff does.
