Sir Alex has failed to add anyone to the European Champions during the summer transfer window.
“We might well start 2008-09 with largely the squad we had last season - and after all, they didn’t do too badly,” Sir Alex said.
“We have not brought in the kind of top-quality player everyone seems to be expecting.”
United was highly expected to sign a high-profile striker. Berbatov was and is the favorite to join but United has failed to reach an agreement with Tottenham.
“We are still researching and looking but it is not easy and certainly we are not desperate.”
