Not since Brian Kidd in 1974 has a player made the move from Manchester United to Arsenal. Silvestre agreed to a two-year deal with the Gunners for an undisclosed amount.

The 31-year old becomes Arsenal’s seventh Frenchman (not including the voyeur) Silvestre had been linked with many clubs, including Manchester City, Sunderland, and a couple of teams back in France. But the temptation to play Champions League football and to continue to live in England was overwhelming and therefore Arsenal was the best choice.

“I’ve spent a large part of my career at United, the last nine years, and I’ll remember that time fondly but feel I’m ready for a new challenge,” Silvestre said.
“Arsenal is known for playing technical and skilful football and has a young but experienced squad. I’m really excited about this next stage of my career, hopefully playing my part in helping the club to new successes.”

I’m glad to see him go, he wasn’t going to help United any by sitting on the bench.

This is the type of deal I like, no noise nothing from anyone for the transfer but what amaze me is why will Wenger a United’s bitter rival go for a United reject? I have this feeling that Wenger is only going to make use of his experience before dumping him, he has only bought so as to buy more time for his young lads.
