Edwin Van der Sar, Wes Brown, and Gary Neville were all left out of Sir Alex’s squad for Wednesdays match against Celtic.
Wes Brown is still suffering from an ankle injury, while Gary Neville and Edwin Van der Sar just need the rest. Which means that young Rafael da Silva will start at right back, while Ben Foster will earn his Champions League debut.
“I want to play in as many games as possible, although it is nice to get a little rest once in a blue moon,” Van der Sar told the Red Devils’ television station.
“I realise you cannot win things with 11 or 12 players.”
Scholes and Hargreaves are still out, so we will probably see Anderson and Nani again.
Manchester United will go to Scotland lacking some experience in defense but not lacking anything up top.
