It has been confirmed that midfielder Ryan Giggs broke his arm last night in the match versus Aston Villa.

The incident occurred early in the 72 minute in United’s 1-1 draw with Villa. Villa substitute Steve Sidwell jumped into a rash tackle and ended up kneeing Giggs across the forearm. The Welshman went down immediately, but play continued for several minutes until Rafael was fouled on a great attacking run.

Giggs was substituted in the 74 minute for Berbatov.

Giggs will be out for the next 4 weeks and will miss the Carling Cup final as well as both legs of the much anticipated clash with AC Milan.

In this writer’s opinion, the challenge put in by Sidwell was reckless and should be reviewed by the FA for discipline. Although Sidwell’s challenge did not include “studs up”, it was no less dangerous than the offense that saw Nani red carded earlier in the match. In fact it was more dangerous because it DID lead to an injury.

What’s your opinion?
