If Manchester wants to be on top of the log, then they need to win games that they should.  Their more difficult games against the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool are the games that is 50/50 stuff.   Against the likes of Bolton, it is just plain shocking to lose.

United’s loss gives Arsenal a three points lead over United and is the first win for Bolton’s new coach, Gary Megson and just maybe we should be keeping an eye out for the new coach.

In a surprise move it was Sir Alex Ferguson who decided to rest star striker Christiano Ronaldo and let me tell you something, he must be kicking himself.  United never looked like scoring and lack the creativity in the center field and as well as out wide.
Bolton took the lead after just ten minutes as Nicolas Anelka controlled Ivan Campo’s ball into the box before neatly swiveling and guiding the ball into the back of United’s net.

Bolton’s physical approach has upset opposing managers before and Ferguson’s complaints over a couple of wild challenges from Kevin Davies on Patrice Evra saw him consigned to the stands for the second half.  I say ha-ha because he himself got over confident in his teams ability and look where it landed him.

From his new vantage point he saw his side continue to be frustrated by a combination of poor finishing and excellent goalkeeping from Jussi Jaaskelainen.

The Finn was at full stretch to divert a stinging free-kick from Owen Hargreaves, but was just a spectator shortly after when Carlos Tevez contrived to push his shot wide from little more than a yard out.  How frustrating was that, I bet you Sir Alex swore continually for 10 minutes.  It was actually embarrassing to see a player of Tevez’s skill miss an opportunity like that.  Yes he has a lot of talent, but man he lacks the killer instinct that United so much needs.

In a desperate last few minutes Van der Sar added to the attacking effort with a cameo appearance upfield for a corner, but the equaliser still refused to arrive
