Only a couple of weeks after the winter transfer window closed and Champions League down to 16 teams. Its no surprise we would be talking about summer transfer rumors.
According to The Guardian, Sir Alex Ferguson has recommended to United’s board that Karim Benzema, The brilliant 20 year old striker from Olympique Lyonnais, should be their primary target this summer.
Benzema is going to be the number one target for top European Clubs this summer. I’m guessing with a price tag of at least £25 million. Although, Benzema has scored 16 goals in 25 games in Ligue 1 competition, and 4 goals in 6 games in Champions League competition, I don’t think he is worth perusing.
Manchester United should concentrate on getting a young and less known player. If it’s a striker Man U wants, some South American names come to mind.
Brazilian striker Nilmar scored 39 goals in 55 matches with Corinthians between 2005 and 2007. The same team Carlitos Tevez played for.
Antonio “El Hulk” Salazar who is only 19, is a product of Club Deportivo Guadalajara also known as Chivas of Mexico. Salazar recently terrorized Copa Chivas where he scored 11 goals in 8 games. A U-19 tournament included Real Madrid who placed 4th, and the US national team who only won 1 of their 5 games. Chivas went on to win the tournament.
In 2005 Chivas sold Carlos Vela (after winning the golden boot in the U-17 World Cup) to Arsenal for £2.5 million. The Golden Ball in that same tournament went to Manchester Uniteds own Anderson.
Best example of buying young and less known players by far was AC Milan’s 2003 buy for Ricardo Izecson dos Santos Leite better known as Kaka. The current Champions of Europe bought the 2007 FIFA World Player of the Year from Sao Paulo FC for
$8.5 million US Dollars!
There is plenty of young talent to be found, Manchester United just has to do the work.
Why not try to grab a striker from Fulham? They won’t be up much longer and will undoubtedly need the money. I would love to see Dempsey with the Red Devils. Running with the likes of Ronaldo, Rooney, and Tevez would make him a much better player. He’d be a good “supporter” for the attack – and with the load of creating the attack off his back, he could relax and just play.
Fair enough that Fergie is looking abroad for younger talent to add to the squad but does this not re-iterate the state of our homegrown talent? In the mid 90’s and on Man Utd were playing the likes of Scholes and Butt,Beckham and Neville, what has happened to our own young talent?

Benzema is fantastic player and I’m sure that Benzema can bring fresh blood in Manchester Utd.
mm… love it..
