“The older you get the more worried you are about retiring,” Sir Alex told MUTV “You start to realise that whilst you have got your health and good fitness, you should carry on in your job. All thoughts of retirement are in the back of my mind.”

“It was a mistake. At the time there were some reasons for it. It was one of those things.” Sir Alex said when asked about nearly walking away from his post over 9 years ago.

It will truly be a sad day when Sir Alex retires, and who will succeed the great Sir Alex?

But not even that was enough to put a smile on Sir Alex’s face, following United’s poor performance at Villa Park

“We controlled the first half, and had a couple of good chances,” said Ferguson. “But in the second half I just think it was carelessness on our part. Our passing was poor. Normally we can control the match. We didn’t control it.”

“We are a club though that never says there is no way back. We brought people on (Macheda and Gabriel Obertan) and they changed the game in fairness to them.

“There was a great life and adventure about them. Macheda scored a great goal and with another five minutes we would have won the game.”

“I could have taken any of 10 players off because we didn’t perform well.” Sir Alex explained, after taking off Berbatov and Hernandez

“We came back well but it was too late and we shouldn’t have been in that position. I expected us to do better in terms of our play.”

Talks with David Gill about renewing the Rooneys contract at United stalled back in August and with only one year remaining on his contract the 24-year-old has made it clear he wants to leave.

Sir Alex is “shocked and bemused” as to why Rooney would want to leave “The best club in the world”

So, “where to” for Rooney? Like I said before in “The start of Rooney to Real” there are only a few clubs he could actually go to.

Real Madrid, Manchester City and maybe Chelsea are the only clubs I think he would go to. He wouldn’t fit in Barcelona, and he wouldn’t go to Italy, cause it doesn’t fit his style of play.

Both Real Madrid and Chelsea have successful striking duos. Real have Ronaldo and Higuain, and Chelsea have Drogba and Anelka. Manchester City have Tevez, and every other striker they have is expendable (Santa Cruz, Adebayor, Balotelli, and Jo) and we’ve seen what Rooney and Tevez could do together.

When asked if his ankle caused him any problems, Rooney replied “No, I’ve had no ankle problem all season.”

And when asked “Why did Alex Ferguson say you had?”, Rooney laughed and replied: “I don’t know.”

This is certainly not going to sit well with Sir Alex. Could this be the beginning of the end for Rooney at United?

First, there are only a handful of clubs that could afford Rooney. Second, there are even less clubs that Rooney would transfer too, based on chances for success.

The only club I could see Rooney moving to, would be Real Madrid. He would never go to Italy, it’s just not his style of football. If he wanted to stay in England, I wouldn’t rule out a move to Manchester City. Its the only club he could or would go to in England.

Although Chelsea could afford Rooney and are serious Premier League and Champions League contenders they have the right players already, their team chemistry is remarkable.

Rooney would certainly help Arsenal, but they would never spend that kind of cash. Liverpool is a sinking ship, and any other club is too small in terms of success and money. Manchester City has the money and is looking very promising, and depending on how Rooney’s relationship with Sir Alex is, Rooney could make the move to City just to spite Sir Alex.

“At Goodison, we had three or four chances at 3-1 to really put the game out of sight, but we were wasteful and ultimately paid the price.

“That killer instinct just isn’t there at the moment and it’s something we need to develop.”

I couldn’t agree more. Wayne Rooney was that ruthless figure in front of goal, until everything happend. Who knows if we’ll get that Ruthless Rooney back.

Until then, United will continue to suffer.

Wayne Rooney will continue to work with Coke, according to a statement released by the company, stating “Last month we amended our marketing plans on Coke Zero. Given the situation at that time we did not feel it was appropriate to run an on-pack promotion featuring Wayne Rooney.”

“Our relationship with Wayne Rooney is ongoing. We are currently working with Wayne on Coke Zero Street Striker – an award winning programme which over the past 3 years has encouraged thousands of young people to get involved in football”

Although I agree with Coke’s decision to cancel Rooney’s campaign, obviously because Wayne Rooney is looked up to by millions of kids world wide, and what he did is unacceptable and is not the message we want to be giving to our youth. I disagree with what society does, in putting these athletes on these pedestals.

But it’s not the Premier League that will haunt Sir Alex, it will be the moment he sees Bayern Munich walk out on the pitch at the Santiago Bernabeu. “The European Cup was the biggest disappointment,” reflected the United boss. “We should be in final because we were the better team.”

And no disrespect to Bayern, but a Manchester United v Inter Milan would have been a much more entertaining final!

Although many consider Fabio to be a much better footballer than his twin brother Rafael, Fabio has not seen nearly as much playing time as Rafael. This obviously because Patrice Evra is more consistent than Gary Neville.

I could see Neville retiring and Evra being sold to make room for the twin brothers in the near future.
