United and Liverpool to bring out top guns

Manchester United vs Liverpool, one of footballs great fixtures. This match is not for the weak and it’s never taken lightly. It’s a battle for the title of “England’s Most Successful Club”. Both teams have a record 18 league titles and have won a combined 116 honors between each other.

It is for this reason that both team have brought in their top guns. Torres and Gerrard return for Liverpool. While Van der Sar, Vidic, Evra and Scholes will return to the squad, along with Nani, and Berbatov.

Currently sitting in 16th, Liverpool need to make up some ground, but that wont be easy at Old Trafford. My money is on United as always and I predict a 2-1 victory for the Red Devils.

Vidic Signs Extension

Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic, finally signs the extension that had all United fans were hoping he would.
Ending nearly two-years of speculation over the Serbians future. Real Madrid were the front-runners in the pursuit for Vidic, having publicly expressed interest in the United defender since the 2008-2009 season.

I was almost certain Real Madrid would lure the big Serbian away from United.

Real Madrid, who are the only real option for a player like Vidic had all the resources to do so, but I’m sure it came down to the staff and football at United.

Who is the Best?

It didn’t take long after the PFA Players’ Player of the Year nominees were announced for managers and players to criticize the shortlist. But what do you expect, United dominated the shortlist with five of the six contenders:

Edwin van der Sar, Nemanja Vidic, Rio Ferdinand, Ryan Giggs, and Cristiano Ronaldo are representing United, with Steven Gerrard representing the rest of the Barclays Premier League.

Arsene Wenger was the first to criticize the nominees by claiming if the voting was conducted later in the season, United would not dominate the shortlist.

“What I believe is that the PFA players of the year decisions are all made in February,” Wenger said.

“But February is not a really important time and that means the players who are rewarded are those who played well until February.

“Now is the most important time of the season – April, May – so I believe these awards just reward the players of the first six months of the season.

“A player who has been out until January has no chance to be voted but he can still be very influential for the rest of the season.

“If they vote in May I hope some of my players would be in there because that would mean we have done well tomorrow and later.”

United sweep January awards

Sir Alex and Nemanja Vidic have both picked up Barclays Premier League monthly awards.

Sir Alex for Manager of the Month and Vidic for Player of the Month respectively, considering United picked up maximum points from their last five matches, beating Chelsea, Wigan , West Brom, Bolton, and Everon, and all with out conceding a single goal.

This is Vidic’s first monthly player award, while Sir Alex receives the award for the 22nd time.

Manchester United down Sunderland

For 90 minutes, Sunderland – under acting manager Ricky Sbragia – played with 10 men firmly behind the ball and hoped a solid rearguard performance would land them an unlikely point away to the champions.
And for 90 minutes, their spoiling tactics worked as United were left frustrated by the sheer numbers stacked against them in the Sunderland defence and their own players’ inability to find the back of the net.
But in the first minute of time added on, Michael Carrick’s long-range shot struck an upright and rebounded straight to Vidic, who gleefully slotted home to hand United all three points right at the death.
Vidic – and the vast majority of those inside Old Trafford – breathed a huge sigh of relief, with few underestimating the importance of the goal which could yet prove crucial in the title race.
With Liverpool and Chelsea winning earlier in the day, victory was imperative for United if they were to remain within striking distance of their main title rivals.
Mission accomplished: United remain five points behind Chelsea and six adrift of leaders Liverpool, with a game in hand on both.
Over the years United have made late goals their trademark and, even if in recent times Arsenal and Liverpool have rather taken over their mantle as kings of the dramatic finales, Vidic proved Alex Ferguson’s side still have it in them.
It was nothing less than United deserved, while few could complain that Sunderland left empty handed.
The visitors showed little to no desire to score, preferring instead to take their chance by sitting deep in their own half and relying on their defence to hold out for a point.
That substitute Kenwyne Jones won their first corner of the game in final minute – an event which brought an excited roar from the visiting support – spoke volumes for their ambition.
Ferguson – who was forced to observe the game from the directors’ box as a result of his touchline ban – opted to overlook midweek hat-trick hero Carlos Tevez in favour of Wayne Rooney and Dimitar Berbatov in an unchanged side to the one which won the Manchester derby a week earlier.
Both were involved in early chances for United, Berbatov being denied by Marton Fulop on 12 minutes before Rooney fired a well-worked free-kick goalwards which the Bulgarian helped on its way soon after. Fulop again had to be alert to keep it out.
But it was not until after the break that United really began to threaten the Sunderland goal, as a breakthrough increasingly seemed just around the corner.
Darren Fletcher, Carrick and Cristiano Ronaldo – who was forced off clutching his ribs on 68 minutes – all went close before the inevitable siege during the final 20 minutes began.
Ryan Giggs lashed a volley wide, Berbatov headed over and Tevez – on since the 58th minute – dragged wide from a similar position to where he netted his third in midweek.
Vidic headed straight at Fulop, Anderson was foiled by a brilliantly timed Teemu Tainio tackle and Carrick dragged another shot wide of the mark as time ran out before Vidic finally made the hosts’ utter domination count – and kept United very much in the hunt for the title.

Vidic admits he was worried

Nemanja Vidic worried that United would not retain the Premier League title due to United’s run of bad luck in the opening weeks. A tough fixture list mixed with some injuries saw United take only five points from the first four games.

“We didn’t start well in the first few games and when you don’t have a good start you worry about what might happen,” Vidic told the Mirror. “You begin to think, ‘If we lose one more game we could be out of the Premier League’.

“It’s something at the back of your mind and you feel the pressure. When you have that you get worried about what you might do in a game.”

“But when you start to win, that brings the confidence back and when you are winning and scoring goals, like we are now, the confidence starts to flow.

“We’ve started to look like a team again, compact and with the right shape.

“I feel we’ve definitely got more now than last season. I believe we can be better but we can only show that on the pitch. Then you will see how much we improve. And at the end of the season, we can say we did.”

Manchester United vs. Bolton preview

Good news for United, Nemanja Vidic is set to return from suspension. While Edwin van der Sar is said to have recovered from a knee injury sustained during the Manchester United vs. Chelsea match. Also Ronaldo will be in the starting line-up.

While Bolton will have Johan Elmander and Matt Taylor back from injury.

So for all you gamblers out there, I would definitely bet on United.

Silvestre move surprises Vidic

Silvestre’s move surprised all of us, including his team-mates.

Here is what Nemanja Vidic had to say
“It surprised me. In fact I think it has come as a surprise to everyone,”
“It is not often a player leaves one big club to go to another like Arsenal or Liverpool. It does not tend to happen.”
“But Mikael did not play much last year and I think he just wanted to go somewhere where he would, so in that sense I am happy for him.”

“He has been here a long time and he still deserves to play at the highest level,” said Vidic
“Mikael has given so much to this club. I am just surprised he is going to Arsenal. But he has made the choice.”

Rooney not 100%

Wayne Rooney will be fit for the Champions League Final on May 21st , but will not start for United on Sunday when they play their last match of the season! At best, Rooney will be on the bench

This is what Sir Alex had to say “You have to make the right decision, no matter what game it is or what squad you’ve got. You can’t pick players if they’re not fit and that’s a key issue. That’s why we have a medical department, that’s why we have five physiotherapists at this club. That’s why we place a lot of importance on our medical staff. They do their job properly and the players won’t play unless they’re 100 per cent.”

NermanjaVidic, on the other hand, looks fit and could very well start on Sunday. “I’m very hopeful Vidic will be fit for Sunday,” added Sir Alex. “Obviously the next two training sessions [Friday and Saturday] are very important for him. But he’s much, much better, clear medically, so hopefully I can get him for Sunday.

Manchester United vs West Ham Preview

United will host West Ham on Saturday May 3rd. Every Manchester United player, staff member, and supporter knows how important this game is.
United will have to do with out Nemanja Vidic because of a concussion suffered last Saturday at Stamford Bridge.
While, West Ham will be missing ex-Gunner Freddie Ljungberg due to a cracked rib suffered last week against Newcastle.
United will have to wait until Monday for Chelseas result against Newcastle. A loss for Chelsea would all but mathematically seal Uniteds Premier League Title.
