The 21-year-old is going home. The Spanish defender agreed to a four-year contract with ex-club FC Barcelona. The move was reported to be worth around £6 million.

I think Pique has plenty of potential and in 4 years he will be worth 5 times that amount. I understand his frustration and his decision. The Manchester United defense has been more than impressive and trying to break into regular rotation is almost impossible. He was just at the wrong club at the wrong time.

It seems Gerard Pique has run out of patience at Old Trafford. After joining Manchester United at only 17-years-old in the summer of 2004 from Spanish giant Barcelona, Pique was loaned to Real Zaragoza for a season. Since then, Pique has struggled to earn a spot on Sir Alex’s first team. He only made 9 Premier League appearances during the 07-08 season with United. Unlike others in the Premier League, Sir Alex has not revealed any concrete summer transfers. We have already seen Chelsea secure a deal with Bosingwa. Manchester City are on the verge of signing Mexican international, Giovani dos Santos. Who has fallen out of favor at the Camp Nou. And The Emirates sounds very tempting to French Young Player of the Year, Hatem Ben Arfa, who revealed The Gunners have expressed interest and contacted him.

Sir Alex has only gone as far as saying “Along with Carlos Tevez and Wayne Rooney, we may need experience in one forward position, somebody to take over from Ryan Giggs eventually.”  A few of the names being tossed around are: Michael Owen, Dimitar Berbatov, and Dean Ashton.
