Both players were and still are in contention to be named the FIFA World Footballer of the Year. I’m not here to answer who has been the better player this year, at least not yet. Lionel Messi is the first player mentioned because he is the most dangerous. After being sidelined for five weeks due to a thigh injury, Messi is expected to play Wednesday. Messi played the final 45 minutes in Barcelona’s draw to Espanyol this weekend but Messi’s impact was undeniable. Barcelona had 9 scoring opportunities in the 2nd half when Messi was playing and only 4 in the 1st half when Messi was not present.The 20 year old has scored 6 goals in 7 games for the Catalan giants in Champions League competition. He is lightning fast and could do some serious damage if he’s not contained.
